The town of Thurso lies on the northern coast of Britain and is one of two main towns in Caithness. This picture was taken on a February morning at a relatively civilised hour since the sun rises very late in the morning during the winter months this far north. This offers the photographer the chance for a lazy start, even when wishing to capture the first glimpse of the morning sun. I awoke one such morning to see a deep red glow through the curtains and quickly rushed to the "cliff path" (which runs between Thurso and the neighbouring port of Scrabster) to take a few shots of the lovely sunrise and strange cloud formations that had formed over the town. |

Thurso has a population of around 10,000 and is the main centre for some distance around. Across the fields from the cliff path can be seen the rooftops of residential accommodation and to the left of the shot the town centre and a former church.
