Photo Details

The summer of 2007 was a poor one and it defeated my attempts to finally ascend the Inaccessible Pinnacle and complete my round of the Munros and tops. This photo was one of the upsides of the summer, the mist was blowing around Coire Lagan and momentarily swirled across the face of Sron na Ciche thereby silhouetting the Cioch against the face behind. A lucky shot indeed, if only it had been so on the In Pin, but any trip to the hills is better than no trip at all. The Cioch or A' Chioch is a pinnacle of rock perched on the north face of Sron na Ciche overlooking Coire Lagan, now a popular climbers playground, it was apparently only discovered from a photograph of the face taken around 1899. The renowned Cuillin explorer Norman Collie and his legendary local friend and guide John Mackenzie were the first to climb the pinnacle in 1906.
