On the 12th May 2005 three of us headed west after work and nipped up Ben Hope taking advantage of the beautiful light evening. On the summit we cooked up some supper and shared a dram whilst enjoying the fine views to Hoy in the north-east and Foinaven in the west. The longer the evening went on the more spectacular the views became as the sun sank lower in the sky. At 8 pm as we dropped off the summit of the hill this view of Cranstackie and Ben Spionnaidh, with the sun partially obscured by cloud, presented itself. The hump of An Lean Charn with Loch Bealach na Sgeulachd and adjacent lochans lies in the foreground between Loch Hope and Loch Eriboll. At the same location a couple of Ptarmigan were perched above the steep drop on the west side of Ben Hope and allowed me to get close enough for a reasonable shot. It was one of those evenings that should go on forever, but as is the way, the sun continued lower and the need to head home for the next days work compelled us to reluctantly head down. |
