Turning onto the narrow road down Glen Brittle, you are soon rewarded with one of Skye's classic views - a large part of the Cuillin Ridge. This image was shot at around 6am on a May morning enroute to climb Sgurr na Banachdich, accessed from close to the Glen Brittle Youth Hostel. This was definitely a day for an early start as for the past few days, the weather had been clear skies at dawn but then cloud and even the odd snow shower had appeared by around 10am. The plan was to get up as early as reasonably possible from the campsite at Sligachan to make the most of the fine start. |

On a fine weekend day, this road can be a busy place (for Syke anyway) so the early start, together with the stillness of the morning gave the perfect opportunity to view the splendour of the Cuillin in silence and isolation. Luckily the cloud stayed largely off the ridge for most of the morning allowing the planned ascent to be made, fine views from the summit and an early lunch back at the Sligachan Hotel.
