Photo Description

The Loch Avon basin in the heart of the Cairngorms with the great mass of Beinn Mheadhoin on the centre right. This photo was taken roughly mid way between Cairngorm and Ben Macdui at the south west end of Hell’s Lum crag where the Feith Buidhe burn descends from the plateau towards Loch Avon. The Loch Avon basin is a deep cleft in the Cairngorm plateau between Cairngorm itself to the north and Beinn Mheadhoin to the south. The Loch is bounded by famous Cairngorm crags such as Stag Rocks (on the left), Hell’s Lum (out of shot close by to the left), the Shelter Stone Crag and behind and above Carn Etchachan (on the right).
