A’ Cheir Ghorm, Foinaven with Loch Eriboll & Ben Hope beyond. Photographer; Jason Bonniface.
Photo Description
A view east north east from the main Foinaven ridge, taken on an autumn afternoon with a low sun causing high contrast areas of sun and deep shadow. A’ Cheir Ghorm is a stunning subsidiary outlying ridge and top of Foinaven. It consists of a jutting quartzite ridge covered in scree heading north-east from the main Foinaven ridge to a high point at its far end. There are several climbs on the hidden northern crags of A’ Cheir Ghorm and the northern corries of Foinaven hold a number of high quality scrambles, rock and ice climbs. Loch Eriboll, the north coast and Ben Hope are in the distance with the Ben Griam hills visible far away at the right hand side of the photo.
Foinaven is a beautiful quartzite ridge, direct on a base of gneiss with several tops over 800m. The height of Ganu Mor was recently measured at 913m, just under the 3000ft required for Munro status. Some might be thankful it just missed out as it without doubt keeps the numbers of visitors down!
