Photo Description
An icey view across northern Sutherland to Ben Hope from the summit of An Caisteal, Ben Loyal. Taken during a cold period in February 2010 after substantial snowfall. I reached the summit of Ben Loyal by skiing from the roadside at Inchkinloch at the south end of Loch Loyal via Carn an Tionail. Massive cornices were present on the west side of the main Ben Loyal ridge south of An Caisteal making the hill look more reminiscent of Mont Blanc than a Scottish Corbett. The return ski took in the mighty 558m peak Cnoc nan Cuilean which provided lovely packed powder skiing! More information and photos from this ski tour of Ben Loyal can be found here.
