Lord Reay’s Seat, Foinaven from A’ Cheir Ghorm. Photographer; Jason Bonniface.
Photo Description
Foinaven’s Lord Reay’s Seat and Cadha na Beucaich silhouetted against the low autumn sun, taken from the A’ Cheir Ghorm ridge. Lord Reay’s Seat is a subsidiary top on the main Foinaven ridge, towards its southern end, south of the 869m top. It adds just a touch of difficulty to the way along the ridge, often negotiated by steep scree slopes on its southern side. It throws down a steep buttress into Coire na Lurgainn which has several difficult rock and ice climbs. As to its origin the first Lord Reay (of Reay in Caithness) was created in 1628 with lands across the far north and we’re now on the 14th Lord. A quick search hasn’t revealed any direct link to the name but presumably one of the 14 enjoyed this fine spot.
