A stormy Torrisdale Bay on Christmas Eve 2004. Photographer; Jason Bonniface.
Photo Description
As dusk was just beginning to take hold on Christmas Eve 2004 we were driving back east along the coast following a snowy day on Ben Loyal. The lighting and stormy nature of the sea combined to provide this view of Torrisdale from the edge of Bettyhill with the waves crashing on to the beautiful but on this occasion not so inviting beach. It was a white Christmas in the far north with heavy snowfall on Christmas Day.
Torrisdale is generally windswept but without doubt a stunning beach. There are a number of archaeological remains near the beach where it sweeps round towards Invernaver at the mouth of Strathnaver, including a hillside broch overlooking the strath. Those interested in horse riding on the beach could contact Torrisdale Trekking to arrange a ride.
